Wisdom Teeth Removal Surgery

Wisdom teeth are the third molar teeth which are present at the end of each of quadrant of the dentition. It is usually the last teeth to erupt in the mouth of an individual. But not every individual has wisdom teeth. Some individuals have not even one wisdom tooth, and some individuals have all four wisdom teeth present in their mouth.

Wisdom teeth need to be removed in some instances. One of the most common cases in which wisdom tooth extraction is recommended to patients is that of an angled eruption of the teeth. Here, it erupts in an angle instead of parallel direction to that of the adjacent teeth. This leads to increased pain and difficulty in maintaining the oral hygiene in the respective area. Also, wisdom tooth removal is recommended in case of pericoronitis which occurs around wisdom teeth when there is a lack of adequate space for wisdom teeth to erupt in the oral cavity.

PROCEDURE OF WISDOM TOOTH REMOVAL OR EXTRACTION:

Wisdom tooth removal is performed by an experienced dental surgeon at a dental clinic in India. The procedure of wisdom tooth extraction does not take much time depending on the complexity of the case as well as the clinical skills of the dentist at the dental clinic.

The wisdom tooth extraction procedure takes around 45 minutes to an hour.
First, the dentist or oral surgeon at the dental clinic injects anesthesia to the patients. This can be local anesthesia, IV sedation or general anesthesia in rare cases. Local anesthesia is usually given to the patients for wisdom tooth removal procedure.
Then, the surgeon provides an incision around the target tooth and starts extracting the tooth. Depending on the angulation of the tooth, the surgeon needs to perform the surgery and eventually removes the tooth from the patient’s mouth. The bleeding is controlled with the help of medications and gauge.
